Google sister company to open new site in Kitchener

KITCHENER — Verily, a sister company to Google focused on research and innovation in health care and life sciences, is expanding to Kitchener.

The Alphabet company announced in a blog post that it’s opening a site dedicated to health-care engineering, data science and product development. Verily will be located at the Google complex in Kitchener, which is currently undergoing a major expansion.

Verily’s data-driven solutions extend to research, care and innovation, aiding in the development of new medicines, improving patient outcomes while lowering costs, and creating next-generation medical devices.

A spokesperson said the company plans to hire a core team of 30 to 40, expanding from there, with roles in engineering, UX (user experience) research and design, data science and product management.

“My hope is that the Kitchener-Waterloo team becomes a trusted partner in product and solution development to the leading health care and life science organizations in Canada, the U.S. and internationally,” Canada site lead and engineering director Ilia Tulchinsky said in the blog post.
