Guelph officers cleared in crash

A crash involving two vehicles operated by Guelph police service officers has been deemed not to be the fault of the officers. Staff at the Special Investigations Unit, have found “no reasonable grounds to believe that any Guelph Police Service officers committed a criminal offence,” according to a statement released this week. The collision took place in May on Kossuth Road in Cambridge. The Guelph police drug team was in Waterloo Region making an arrest and were returning to Guelph.

The first vehicle was a police van with the prisoner and the second was an unmarked vehicle with an on-duty police officer in it. Police said a civilian vehicle, coming in the opposite direction, crossed the centre line and struck the van and then hit the other on-duty officer’s vehicle head-on. The man driving the vehicle suffered serious injuries.

“It was apparent that the officers involved did nothing to cause or contribute to the crash,” reads the statement.
