Kitchener residents need more say in developments

Re: Neighbours are opposed to proposed downtown highrise — Sept. 20

I read with great interest in that the chair of the City of Kitchener committee of adjustments, Denny Cybalski, is acting for a developer who is asking for a greater density of a proposed building than current rules allow in downtown Kitchener.

At the start of the committee of adjustment meetings, are the relevant qualifications and conflicts of interest of all committee members stated? It would help residents understand the committee’s decisions.

As an applicant for a developer, Denny Cybalski would likely have a developer’s perspective. It feels to me as if the fox is guarding the hen house. Do the current residents of Kitchener who have to live with the many long-range consequences of the committee’s decisions have an adequate voice on the committee of adjustments?
