A Kitchener man is facing charges following a downtown shooting that police believe was targeted.
Waterloo Regional Police received a call at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and arrived at a house in the area of Victoria Street South and Charles Street West. They found a 38-year-old man with gunshot wounds. He was sent to an out-ofregion hospital with serious injuries. Just after 12:30 p.m., police asked residents in the area to stay inside their homes.
A couple of hours later, police said emergency services cleared the home. Police originally said several people were arrested, but reported on Sunday morning that a Kitchener man was facing charges.
A 52-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and other firearm-related offences.
Police said officers would continue to be in the Linden Avenue area, but advised there was no longer a concern for public safety.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777, extension 8191, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
