Waterloo Region Record

Two more OVID-19 deaths in region

WATERLOO REGION Two more people died of COVID-19 in Waterloo Region.

The deaths in the Friday update raise the pandemic’s total to 417.

A man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s died.

There have been three COVID-related deaths this week.

Another 117 COVID-19 cases were added to the total case count to reach 46,263.

Hospitalizations went up by six to 46, including seven people in intensive care. Outbreaks in high-risk settings went down by four to 14.

Of the active COVID-19 outbreaks, eight were in longterm-care and retirement homes, three in other congregate settings and three in hospital. Active cases dropped by 37 to 454. The seven-day moving rate of new cases was 6.6 per 100,000.

The number of new cases does not capture all infections because testing is limited in Ontario to those at highest risk.

A total of 1,344,502 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given to regional residents: 89.1 per cent of residents five and older received one dose, 86.2 per cent are fully vaccinated, and 51.6 per cent have a booster shot.

Ontario reported 1,412 new cases of COVID-19 Friday.
