Project Bronco leads to charges

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested 10 individuals in connection with an ongoing investigation into vehicle and trailer thefts in Waterloo Region. The month-and-a-half-long investigation, dubbed Project Bronco, was led by the police service’s break, enter and vehicle theft team and resulted in two residential search warrants being completed in Kitchener and Cambridge. In total, 10 individuals, between the ages of 29 and 57, were arrested. Eighty criminal charges were laid and 12 other charges laid under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. Charges include motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, drug trafficking and firearms. The following items were seized as a result of the investigation: 22 stolen vehicles (valued at approximately $200,000); six stolen trailers (valued at approximately $70,000); approximately 590 grams of suspected cocaine; approximately 182 grams of suspected methamphetamine; approximately one kilogram of suspected purple fentanyl; approximately 4.9 grams of suspected heroin; approximately 700 pills, including hydromorphone and other controlled substances; stolen property valued at over $150,000; about $42,000 in Canadian currency; a sawed-off shotgun and approximately 150 rounds of ammunition.
