Conveniently overlooking an inconvenient truth

Robert Alexander Kitchener

Re: Conservative hopefuls must vow to end carbon taxes — Aug. 11 As director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Franco Terrazzano easily shows a carbon tax will raise the price of gasoline by $220 per family per year.

And he quotes Pierre Poilievre as being against “any federal carbon tax of any kind.”

But he fails to mention the financial rebate for us taxpayers. And we are supposed to “end this tax” in spite of the solid record of such taxes to nudge people to use less gasoline.

The writer oddly fails to mention the point of having the carbon tax in the first place, namely, that carbon when burned in the air is bad for us.

Amazingly, he ignores the connection between the more gas used the more the climate is heated up and the more intense the tornadoes, hurricanes, floods and droughts will become. Joining our fellow citizens to avoid these consequences for $20 a month, or less after the rebate, is a very good deal.

If Poilievre agrees that no restrictions on the use of gas are OK, and he leads the Conservatives, then many unlucky Canadians will be swimming with the fishes.
