Speak out against forced relocations

Re: Forced relocation of seniors is outrageous — Nov. 25

I’d like to respond to this article by Luisa D’Amato. Thank you for the good summary of the cruelties that our own Ontario government is imposing on our most vulnerable citizens.

The fear alone that our elderly are now living in, due to the oppressive Bill 7, is bad enough. But to then actually force elderly people to move far from family and friends into institutions that have a worse track record for care is unbelievable. What world are we living in that we can actually stand by and let this happen? Kudos to the Ontario Health Coalition and the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly for launching a court challenge.

I also commend the work of Seniors for Social Action Ontario in raising awareness and sharing so many alternative ideas for better care for our elders.

Who wants these institutions, anyway? I know I don’t ever want to live in one. We can do so much better.

I would encourage the same response we are seeing for the Greenbelt: Massive rallies, petitions and more. It seems our concerted voices have to be screaming from the rooftops for this government to pay heed.
